In the viral video, Gautam Gambhir was seen joking with Rohit Sharma in the team hotel.

After the third ODI between Indian Cricket Team and Australian Cricket Team at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Thursday, October 23, a video of a hilarious chat between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma is going viral on social media. In the video, Gambhir is seen making a joke about Rohit’s retirement on their way back to the room in team hotel.

While India lost the Adelaide ODI against Australia, Rohit silenced his critics with a gritty knock of 73 runs in the encounter. After India lost two back-to-back wickets of Shubman Gill (9) and Virat Kohli (0) and were reeling at 17/2, the right-handed batsman etched a partnership of 118 runs with Shreyas Iyer (61) for the third wicket.

Rohit struggled to get going at the start but later grasped the conditions well to score 73 runs off 97 deliveries, smacking seven fours and two sixes in the process. He finished as the highest run-scorer for India in the encounter, as they eventually ended with 264/9 on the scoreboard. However, his knock went in vain as Australia chased down the target by two wickets with fifties by Matthew Short (74) and Cooper Connolly (61*).

After Rohit’s impressive show with the bat in the Adelaide ODI, India head coach Gambhir’s hilarious chat with the Indian opener is going viral on micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter). In the video, Gambhir made a joke about fans expecting the Adelaide ODI to be a farewell game for Rohit and urged him to share a photo on social media after his powerful knock.

As Indian players were on their way to the team hotel, Gambhir was caught saying: “Rohit, sabko lag raha tha ki aaj farewell match tha, ek photo to lagaa do”.

Notably, Rohit was removed as ODI captain prior to India’s tour of Australia 2025, with Shubman Gill replacing him in the role. With his poor batting show in the first ODI in Perth, where he got out for just eight runs, he witnessed a dismal comeback to the Indian Cricket Team after a seven-month gap. However, he bounced back with his half-century in the second game.

Meanwhile, Rohit also broke multiple records during the Adelaide ODI, becoming the all-time third highest run-scorer for India in the 50-over format overtaking Sourav Ganguly. Moreover, he also became the first Indian batter to smash 1000 ODI runs against Australia in Australia. Overall, he is the fifth batter to achieve the record.
