Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff have been under the scanner for the last few months.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to do a major overhaul in the coaching setup of the Indian Cricket Team. As per the reports in the Telegraph, it is learned that clouds are looming over the place of Gautam Gambhir‘s support staff in bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
The BCCI will be doing the review after the ongoing test series against the England Cricket Team. However, the reports claimed that any major decision will be taken only after the Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in September.
The current Indian coaching setup, which came into the role after the role after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, has been under a lot of scrutiny for their poor performances, particularly in the tests. They have faced a lot of criticism as well for their team selection in the ongoing series against England.
BCCI unhappy with bowling coach Morne Morkel

The reports claimed that Gautam Gambhir’s place as a head coach will be the same. But, the BCCI is not happy with bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. Both were picked by Gambhir when he took over the charge of the team.
In particular, Morne Morkel has come under a massive scanner as there’s a belief in the BCCI that he hasn’t been able to ‘nurture even a single pacer’. The struggle of Indian pacers, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, has been quite evident over the last few months.
The BCCI is angry with the Gautam Gambhir-led coaching staff for their team selection in the England series. The source closer to the development said that keeping out Kuldeep Yadav in four games hasn’t gone well with many in the board.
“The coaches always talk of balance, but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences,” a BCCI source told The Telegraph
Notably, after ICC Champions Trophy 2025, BCCI sacked Abhishek Nayar, who was the assistant coach. The board reportedly was unhappy with his performance and sacked him. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate are shown the same path.
