Gautam Gambhir to rescue himself from IPL 2024, to shift his focus on Lok Sabha elections - Reports
Former India opening batter Gautam Gambhir is currently serving as member of Lok Sabha from East Delhi.
Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir may rescue himself from the next edition of the Indian Premier League, as the Lok Sabha elections will also be held at the same time. Gautam Gambhir is currently a member of the Lok Sabha from the East Delhi parliamentary constituency. Earlier, former Indian wicket-keeper MSK Prasad’s joined as a strategic consultant in Lucknow’s camp fueled speculations of Gautam Gambhir leaving the Lucknow franchise after his two years of association. Now a source close to Gambhir has refuted the rumours.
Gambhir to focus on Lok Sabha elections
A source tracking the development has informed that Gambhir is not leaving the Lucknow franchise and further added, “Yes, Gautam Gambhir is likely to just take a break for the next IPL due to his political commitments. He is not moving to a different team or leaving the franchise. There will be a lot of political work involved in the build-up to the Lok Sabha elections, so he wants to focus all his energies towards that.” Gautam Gambhir, after his retirement from his playing career, he joined Lucknow Super Giants in their debut season.
Changes in LSG Support staff
Lucknow Super Giants are willing to make a few changes in their support staff after consecutive losses in the IPL knockouts. Earlier, Justin Langer was roped in as head coach of the team, replacing Andy Flower. MSK Prasad was brought in just a few days ago as a strategic consultant. Gautam Gambhir is a crucial figure of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the union territory of Delhi. Gautam Gambhir is seen as a challenger to current Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming assembly election.
Talking about his presence in the Delhi BJP, a source tracking the development has said, “Gautam is a big face of the BJP in Delhi and elsewhere, and his popularity is right up there. So he will be actively involved in election work next year and will not have enough time for the Indian Premier League.” Indian general elections will be held in March and April 2024, and the results will be announced in mid-May. The Indian Premier League season will also be played around the same time in 2024, leaving no time for Gautam to be a part of Lucknow Super Giants camp.
