Injured Glenn Maxwell was not named in Australia’s squad for first two T20Is against India.

After getting ruled out of the first two T20Is against India, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is hopeful of recovering in time and getting in the squad for last three T20Is of the five-match series against the Indian Cricket Team next month. Maxwell is currently under recovery after suffering a wrist fracture.

The Australian stalwart suffered a fracture on his right wrist when he was hit by a shot off Mitchell Owen while bowling in the nets ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand. He was immediately sent home to consult a specialist and opted for surgery for a speedy recovery.

Due to the injury, he was ruled out of the first two T20I games against India, scheduled to be played on October 29 and October 31. Australia will announce the squad for the next three T20Is later, which will be played on November 2, 6, and 8.

Glenn Maxwell hopes to play in the last three T20Is against India

During a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, Maxwell said that he hopes to play in the last three T20Is against India. He also revealed that he went ahead with the surgery so that he could recover early and be part of the India series and the Big Bash League.

“I think having the surgery last week sort of gives me a little bit more hope of playing some part in that India series, if I can get myself right,” he said.

“The only reason I had the surgery was that the options they gave me were to miss that series completely and no surgery, or have surgery and it gives me a slim chance to hopefully play a part. And if not, I’ll be ready earlier for the BBL, and I think it leaves me in good stead to get the rest of my body right,” he added.

The veteran Australian player also revealed that he is engaging in mobility exercises to strengthen his wrist. He had the cast removed from his fractured wrist on Wednesday.

“I only met with a hand therapist yesterday. He only gave me some really basic movements, things that look really boring, but I suppose they’re going to strengthen the wrist,” Maxwell said.

Notably, the five-match T20I series against India will play a big role in Australia’s preparation for ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Maxwell has shown a brilliant form in the shortest format this year, scoring 169 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 174.22, including one unbeaten fifty.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh is set to lead Australia in the T20I series against India. Marsh will also lead the side in the ODI series in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, who has been ruled out due to an injury. The three ODI games will be played from October 19 to 25.
