Glenn Maxwell likely to miss India ODI tour before ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell hasn't completely recovered from ankle soreness.

Australian team are on tour to South Africa for white-ball assignments. Both teams are scheduled to play three T20Is and five ODIs on the tour. The three-match T20I series ended in Australia's favor. Led by Mitchell Marsh, Australia registered a 3-0 clean sweep in the series. The T20I series will be followed by a five-match ODI series starting on September 7.

That will be an important series for both teams in order to prepare for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Australia will then travel to India for a three-match ODI series between September 22 and 27, just ahead of the mega event. However, ahead of India's tour, Australia have been dealt with a big blow as star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is likely to miss the ODI series against India.

Glenn Maxwell to be available for the ODI World Cup in India

Maxwell hasn't recovered from his ankle soreness and is unlikely to play in the ODI series against India. However, he doesn't want to rush his injury and is hopeful of being fit for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The World Cup will start on October 5 with a game between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad. The five-times champions will start their campaign on October 8 with a game against India.

Maxwell is a key player for Australia's white-ball setup, and the management would hope he will be fit for the mega event in India. He was picked for the ODI squad against South Africa but later withdrew from the series. He will miss out on South African series due to paternal duties.

Though it will be too early to rule him out of the series, the all-rounder said that he is looking to play in India but wants to give himself extra time. Maxwell said, "The selectors and the staff don't want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they have a bit of extra time before the World Cup. So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a work of two behind."
