Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell resigns from Melbourne Stars captaincy

Melbourne Stars had a disappointing BBL 2024 season under Glenn Maxwell’s captaincy.
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made a huge decision after the end of BBL 2023-24 league round campaign. Glenn Maxwell has announced his resignation from the captaincy of Melbourne Stars. Maxwell served as Melbourne Stars captain for five years, he took the captaincy role in BBL 2018 and will be ending his stint after a disappointing season in 2024.
Melbourne Stars finished sixth in the BBL 2023-24 points table. They only won four games out of 10 league matches they played and lost six. Maxwell-led side didn’t look comfortable in the entire season and failed to put up a challenge in most of the games. Melbourne Stars finished the BBL 2023-24 season with hattrick of losses in the final three games.
Glenn Maxwell resigns from captaincy
According to a few media reports, All-rounder Glenn Maxwell informed about the decision to his Stars teammate when team suffered a seven-run defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in at MCG. This was the fourth consecutive season for Melbourne base franchise where they have failed to qualify for the playoffs round in Big Bash League. Melbourne Stars played the BBL finals in 2019-20 season.
Glenn Maxwell replaced former Victorian John Hastings as skipper of the side in 2018. Hastings served as skipper for one season after David Hussey announced his retirement from professional cricket. Maxwell still has two more years left in his contract with Melbourne Stars. He led Stars in 65 matches and won 34 games. Stars lose 30 games under Maxwell’s leadership.
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell blamed the untimely injuries for a poor campaign in the ongoing Big Bash league. Maxwell had a terrific end of 2023. He won the World Cup 2023 with Australian side. Right hand batter Maxwell played the best ODI innings of all time against Afghanistan in Mumbai and scored his first ever ODI double century.
