India's tour of West Indies 2023
Hardik Pandya breaks Jasprit Bumrah, Ravi Ashwin's bowling record in T20Is
Hardik Pandya sent back two WI batsmen in the first over in the second T20I at The Providence stadium.
Indian T20I captain Hardik Pandya has become the third-leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket for India. Pandya has broken the records of pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and off-spinner Ravi Ashwin with a superb spell of bowling. Pandya overtook Jasprit Bumrah with the wicket of Brandon King in the first bowl he bowled. He then picked up Rovman Powell in the 10th over to overtake Ravi Ashwin.
He now has 73 T20I wickets, three more than Jasprit Bumrah, who got 70 in his T20I career, and one more than Ravi Ashwin. Pandya’s opening over opened the game both ways, as India didn’t post a huge total on board. India needed early breakthroughs, and captain Pandya along with Arshdeep provided them.
Pandya overtakes Ashwin – Bumrah
Pandya has also overtaken off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to become the third-leading wicket-taker in the T20I format. T20 specialist Pandya took 89 games to overtake Jasprit Bumrah and Ashwin. Right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been away from the action for the last year. He has played 60 games and picked up 70 wickets in the format. Ashwin has 72 wickets in 65 games.
Talking about the game, Hardik played a crucial knock of 24 runs in 18 balls with two sixes to power India to a decent total on the board. Providence wicket is assisting pacers and providing a little movement on the wicket.

Once again, Indian batters struggled to score against West Indian bowlers. Shubman Gill failed in both T20I games so far. He went out while attempting a flick shot against Alzarri Joseph on just seven runs. Ishan Kishan also got out after getting a decent start in his innings. Kishan was out for 27 runs. Suyrakumar Yadav was out on just one run due to a poor run call from Ishan Kishan. Sanju Samson also failed, scoring just seven runs in his innings.
The new entrant in the Indian team, Tilak Varma, was the only batter to score above 30. Tilak Varma scored his maiden T20I half-century and was out attempting a big shot at deep mid-wicket. Tilak scored 51 runs in 41 balls and tried his best to take India to a decent total. Tilak smacked five fours and a six in his inning. As India were struggling to touch the 150-run mark, Ravi Bishnoi with six and Arshdeep Singh with four in the last over took India above 150 runs. The West Indies have bounced back nicely in the chase.
