Haris Rauf becomes the third-fastest Pakistan bowler to take 50 ODI wickets

After dominating in the group stage, Pakistan started the journey of the super four in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 with an one-sided win over Bangladesh at Gaddaffi Stadium in Lahore. It was once again a brute display of pace bowling from Pakistan's trio that proved to be too good for the Bangladeshi batters. After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first on a batting pitch.

But the trio of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah didn't let any batter score runs. These three bowlers picked up eight wickets between them. Haris Rauf ended up with 4/19 in his six overs. Naseem also picked up 3/34, while Shaheen Afridi ended up one wicket. With his four wickets, Haris Rauf also completed 50 wickets in his ODI career.

Haris Rauf bowled a fiery spell that broke the backbone of Bangladesh batting order. With this, he took 50 ODI wickets in his 27 matches. On this occasion, Shaheen presented him with a special memento on behalf of the team after the game got over. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on Twitter (now X) where Shaheen was presenting Haris the souvenir.

Speaking of the game, Bangladesh were bundled out for 193 runs in 38.4 overs. They were 47/4 in 9.1 overs when skipper Shakib Al Hasan and wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim added 100 runs for the fifth wicket. Shakib made 53 off 57, while Mushfiqur scored 64 off 87. As soon as that partnership broke, Bangladesh lost its way. From 147/4, they lost the last six wickets for 46 runs.

Chasing the score, Imam-ul-Haq scored a solid half-century at the top. He made 78 off 84 balls. Babar Azam had a rare failure and made 17 runs. But Mohammad Rizwan made sure that they were not losing many wickets. He made an unbeaten 63 off 79, and Pakistan made 194/3 in 39.3 overs to win the game. Pakistan will now face India on September 10 in Colombo.
