India played only 4 test matches in the last 10 years in women’s cricket.

While every single governing board and the International Cricket Council (ICC) focus on the growth of women’s cricket around the world, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has asked for more red-ball games in the upcoming tours. The Indian women’s team has played only four test matches in the last 10 years. 50-over and T20I formats have been given priority by every single team in women’s cricket. Only four teams are taking part in the red-ball format. Australia, England, South Africa, and India are currently playing the women’s test format, but in very small numbers.

Harmanpreet Kaur asks for more test matches

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, demanding more red-ball games for her team, said, “This year we have two tests, one against England and one against Australia. And I hope those games can make a huge impact on women’s cricket, and hopefully, in the future, we will keep getting more test matches. We have to bring back test matches in women’s cricket because it’s very important for women’s cricket.” India will be playing a test against Australia and England this year in India.

While India plays only two, the other three nations will play more than India’s total. England will play five test matches, Australia four, and South Africa three this year. Not satisfied with India’s test matches, Harmanpreet Kaur has asked for more and said, “As a player, I definitely want more tests because, as a growing kid, we saw more tests on TV than T20s. Today, it’s a lot of fun playing T20s, but Test cricket is something every cricketer wants to play.”

Harmanpreet Kaur also said that the domestic structure of Indian women’s cricket has improved a lot. She added, “Trust me, it has improved a lot. Initially, when I started playing, we hardly got domestic games, but for the last couple of years, the domestic level has improved a lot. We are getting more games; some games are live, so people can watch them on TV”. India have not lost any test they have played in the last 10 years; they played 4 and won 2 of them, while 2 ended in a draw.
