India Women’s Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that her team will give their best efforts to win the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The mega will be hosted by India along with Sri Lanka, which will host Pakistan’s games, and is set to commence on September 30.

A total of eight teams are part of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. They are- India Women, Sri Lanka Women, Australia Women, New Zealand Women, Bangladesh Women, Pakistan Women, England Women, and South Africa Women.

Notably, India Women have never won the ODI World Cup title despite marvellous performances in a few campaigns. They finished as runners-up in the 2005 edition and third in the 2009 edition. On Monday (August 11), the 50-day countdown for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup began with a launch ceremony in Mumbai. ICC Chairman Jay Shah inaugurated the event. Harmanpreet was present at the event with fellow teammates Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues.

During the event, Harmanpreet said that the India Women will give their 100 per cent to break the barrier of winning the World Cup title this time.

“Playing in front of a home crowd is always special, and hopefully this time we’ll give our 100 per cent and finally break the barrier that all Indian fans have been waiting for,” she was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The India Women’s skipper also recalled her special knock against Australia Women in the semi-final of the 2017 edition. Kaur smacked a match-winning 171-run knock in the clash to propel the team to the final of the tournament.

“I still remember that knock – it was very special. A lot changed for me personally after that. At the time, I didn’t fully realise what had happened, but when we returned to India after losing the final, the number of people waiting and cheering for us was truly remarkable. That was something very special,” she further said.

Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final will take place on November 2. India Women will play the tournament opener against Sri Lanka Women on September 30 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

In the previous edition of the tournament in 2022, India Women failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Australia Women are the defending champions of the tournament. They outplayed England Women by 71 runs in the final of the last edition in Christchurch.
