Harry Brook pulled out of IPL 2025 two months ahead of the tournament.

England’s new white-ball captain Harry Brook has shared his opinion on facing ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years. Notably, Brook participated at IPL 2025 mega auction – which took place in November last year.

The England batter was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise for a whopping amount of INR 6.25 crores. He had a base price of INR 2 crores. However, just two months ahead of the tournament, Brook pulled out of IPL 2025 to focus on playing for England national team.

As per the new rules, now Brook faces two-year ban from the tournament. Therefore he won’t be able to play in the tournament till 2027. However, the ban is yet to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially.

It’s fair play: Harry Brook on getting banned from IPL for two years

While speaking to The Mirror, the 26-year-old player has broken his silence on facing ban from the IPL. Brook said BCCI haven’t officially informed him about the ban, but he feels it’s a fair decision.

“They haven’t told me. But if I do get banned, fair play. That’s the rules they put in place, but I’m completely committed to playing cricket for England,” he said.

Earlier this week, Brook was named England’s new white-ball skipper by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). On Thursday, Brook confirmed that he would like to stay away from franchise T20 leagues to focus on his job as England’s white-ball skipper. Notably, the middle-order batsman plays for the national team across all three formats.

“So to lose a little bit of money here and there, I’d take that any day to play for England. I won’t be playing any franchise cricket in the near future and I’ll be prioritising England and whatever games we have with them,” he had said.

Brook is the successor of former skipper Jos Buttler, who quit England’s white-ball captaincy after their group stage exit at ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, Buttler led England to ICC T20 World Cup 2022 title in Australia.

However, under Buttler’s captaincy, England flopped in three consecutive ICC tournaments – Cricket World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025. Hence, Brook now has been handed the responsibility to revive England’s form in both limited-overs formats as the new captain and showcase a better performance in global cricket tournaments.
