Harry Brook has gained the top position in the ICC test batting rankings for the first time.
Harry Brook, the young England batter, has ended teammate Joe Root’s reign at the top and has become the new No.1 ranked test batter in the latest update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) test players rankings. This development happened on December 11, 2024.
Brook rose to the top of the ICC rankings for the first time with a strong performance in the recently-concluded second test match against New Zealand.
Harry Brook scored his eighth test century in the second test match to help England win the ongoing three-match test series against New Zealand in Wellington, propelling him to the top of the revised ICC men’s test batting rankings for the first time.
Brook’s ascent to 898 rating points is just one more than Root’s current total of 897, putting the 25-year-old on par with India great Sachin Tendulkar for the 34th-highest rating of all time in tests.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant, the Indian keeper-batter, lost three spots and slipped to No.6 position on the test batting rankings. Now, Yashasvi Jaiswal remains the top-ranked Indian batter at No.4. Shubman Gill moved to the 17th spot, while Virat Kohli lost six places and dropped down to the 20th spot.
Jasprit Bumrah remains the no.1 ranked bowler and Ravindra Jadeja holds onto his no.1 spot in the all-rounder rankings
India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah remains at the top of the test bowling rankings, but he has some new competition, with Australia captain Pat Cummins (up one spot to fourth) and New Zealand seamer Matt Henry (up one spot to ninth) making progress.
Fellow quicks Mitchell Starc (up three places to 11th), Chris Woakes (up two places to 15th), and Gus Atkinson (up four spots to 17th) all make gains, while South African spinner Keshav Maharaj (up four spots to equal 18th) returned to the top 20 after bowling his team to victory against Sri Lanka on the final day.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja held onto his No. 1 spot in the ICC all-rounder rankings for tests. Following his team’s series against the West Indies in the Caribbean, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved up two spots to second.
Ravichandran Ashwin remains at No.3 spot, followed by Shakib Al Hasan while India’s Axar Patel slipped one spot to No.9.
