Harry Brook got banned from the IPL for two years after opting out of the 2025 season.

Harry Brook, the white-ball captain of England, has talked candidly about his reasons for skipping the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his future aspirations to compete in the competition.

Although Harry Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 6.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, he chose to pull out of the league just before it began. His choice to put England’s national responsibilities first was a clear infraction of the BCCI’s most recent rule.

A two-season penalty is automatically imposed on any player who is purchased at auction but withdraws later, according to a BCCI regulation that was issued in September 2024 and goes into effect for the 2025 season.

“Incredibly difficult decision”- Harry Brook on skipping IPL 2025

Following his two-year suspension, Harry Brook has stated his intention to play in the IPL again in the future.

It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties,” Brook was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Brook is currently playing for England in the ongoing series against India as a member of the Test team. By getting 99 runs in the first innings and just missing out on a century, he contributed significantly to England’s triumph in the first test.

Brook also showered praise on Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant.

He is an awesome player. It was great watching him bat. He is an eye-catcher; everybody switches on the TV when he bats. He can take the game away from any team, at any stage… One of the best in the world,” Brook said of Pant.

Pant had become the first wicket-keeper batter and second keeper overall to score twin hundreds in the same test in Leeds. He scored 134 and 118, but India failed to win the test match, as England came out victors by five wickets, successfully chasing 371 runs.
