Delhi Capitals bought Harry Brook for INR 6.25 crores during IPL 2025 mega auction.

On Monday, March 10, England batsman Harry Brook announced his decision to withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crores at the mega-auction in November. This is the second consecutive time he has withdrawn from the IPL, putting him at risk of facing a ban from the competition.

According to the new rule introduced by the franchise, “Any player who registers for the auction and, after being picked, makes himself unavailable before the season starts will be banned from participating in the tournament and player auction for two seasons.”

Brook had an underwhelming performance in the three-match ODI series against India and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and has cited the need to focus on the national team behind the decision.

Notably, Brook is one of the leading candidates to succeed Jos Buttler as the captain of England’s ODI team.

The young middle-order batsman announced his decision through an Instagram post. He stated that he made the choice based on the advice of people he trusts and emphasized his focus on England’s upcoming series against West Indies and India.

The post read, “I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.

With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is really time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date.

I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right, and playing for my country remains my priority and focus.
