India and England have played eight test matches at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team will clash in the second test of the ongoing five-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The game will commence on July 2, and both teams have started preparations for the encounter.

The Ben Stokes-led side lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning the opening game by five wickets. The hosts chased down the huge total of 371 runs in the clash on account of a magnificent 149-run knock from Ben Duckett.

Despite five centuries by four batsmen and a five-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah, the Shubman Gill-led side could not outplay the hosts in the encounter. Now, the visitors will aim for a comeback in the second test at Edgbaston.

Have India ever won a test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham?

The Shubman Gill & Co. will have a big test in the upcoming clash at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This is because India have never defeated England in a test match at the venue in the past. The two teams have played each other in eight tests at Edgbaston, out of which they lost seven games, while one ended in a draw.

India faced England at Edgbaston for the first time in July 1967 under Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s captaincy. They faced a huge defeat by 132 runs. In 1974, India lost by an innings and 78 runs. They faced a similar outcome in 1979, losing the game by an innings and 83 runs.

In 1986, the Kapil Dev-led Indian team managed to draw a test match at Edgbaston, avoiding a defeat for the first time. 10 years later in 1996, India lost their encounter at Edgbaston by eight wickets, led by Mohammad Azharuddin.

Under skipper MS Dhoni during India’s tour of England 2011, India faced their biggest defeat at Edgbaston. They lost the match by an innings and 242 runs. In 2018, the Virat Kohli-led India showed a wonderful performance in the first test in Birmingham; however, they eventually faced a defeat by 31 runs.

During India’s tour of England 2021-22, the rescheduled fifth test took place in Birmingham in July 2022. Jasprit Bumrah was the stand-in skipper of the team in the absence of captain Rohit Sharma. The visitors showed a brilliant batting show in the first innings. However, they failed to defend a 378-run target in the second innings, losing the encounter by seven wickets.
