Hyderabad is scheduled to host two Pakistan games and one game between New Zealand and the Netherlands.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to tweak the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which begins on October 5 in India, as in the revised schedule, which was announced a few days ago, the Uppal Stadium has been allotted back-to-back matches on October 9 and 10.

Just three of the 45 ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 league stage matches will be played at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, including two between the Netherlands and Pakistan qualifiers.

In fact, Hyderabad saw one of the nine changes made to the original ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule that was announced in June when the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match, the final game at the venue, was moved from October 12 to October 10 in an effort to give the Babar Azam-led team enough time to prepare for the game against India on October 14.

Unable to arrange security for back-to-back matches in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, HCA tells BCCI

The Hyderabad Cricket Association has informed the BCCI that they may find it difficult to host ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches on consecutive days. The match was initially scheduled for October 12 but with the India-Pakistan clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad being rescheduled for October 14.

The reason HCA gave is that they will be unable to arrange security for the two matches on consecutive games. According to a report in Indian Express, the Hyderabad Police raised concern over security with the revised ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule leaving Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to host back-to-back matches.

The venue will host the New Zealand-Netherlands encounter on October 9 and the Pakistan-Sri Lanka game the following day. As a result, the BCCI has received a formal request from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to extend the time between the two games.

"It is indeed a concern, and we have brought it to the attention of the BCCI. We have asked the board if the dates can be adjusted. At least a one-day break between the games would be helpful. We have discussed with BCCI CEO (acting) Hemang Amin to see if the schedule can be tweaked. If not, we will have no other option but to manage,” an HCA official, who works for Retd Justice L Nageswara Rao (the administrator), told Cricbuzz.

According to the report, none of the BCCI chiefs had spoken with the HCA about the new date; instead, Hyderabad Police told the cricket association executives of the problem by informing them that they wouldn't be able to provide enough protection, particularly for the Pakistan game.

Up to 3000 police officers will be needed for one World Cup game, with the remaining officers being stationed at the hotel where the Pakistani players will be staying. The HCA has been advised that the Pakistan game won't have appropriate protection due to back-to-back World Cup games.
