The Hyderabad cricket team is having a dream run in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023–24 season. The Tilak Varma-led side won all seven matches they played in the Plate Group. In the summit clash of the Plate League, Hyderabad defeated Meghalaya by five wickets on Tuesday, February 20, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

In the Plate League final, the Tilak Varma-led Hyderabad chased down the target of 198 runs in the fourth innings against Meghalaya. Half-centuries by Rahul Singh (62 off 40) and skipper Varma (64 off 50) led Hyderabad to an easy victory and booked their place in the Elite Group for the next Ranji Trophy season.

The Hyderabad cricket team won their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 1937–38 and won the second trophy in the 1986–87 season of the elite domestic tournament.

The Hyderabad side had a horrible run in last year’s Ranji Trophy tournament, where they just managed to win a single match in seven league stage games. Hyderabad also finished at the bottom of the Elite Group B table, which relegated them to play in the Plate division in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 season.

Following their huge win over Meghalaya in the 2023-24 Plate League final, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50,000 for the standout performers.

If this was not good news enough, what the Hyderabad Cricket Association top officials announced would definitely be the cherry on top for the team after winning the Plate League final against Meghalaya. A cash prize of one crore rupees for the team and a BMW car for each cricketer in the team if they win the Ranji Trophy in the next three years were announced by HCA.

“The announcement was aimed at motivating the players and other stakeholders. Achieving the target next year is realistically not possible, so I gave them three seasons,” Rao was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.

When Ranji Trophy 2024 quarter-finals will start?

All four quarter-final games in the Ranji Trophy 2023-244 will start on February 23. The eight teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals are Vidarbha, Karnataka, Mumbai, Baroda, Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.
