Jos Buttler has established himself as one of England’s key limited-overs players. Known for his 360-degree hitting ability, Buttler became England’s full-time white-ball captain in June 2022.
Buttler made his T20I debut against India in 2011 in Manchester. Initially competing for a spot with Craig Kieswetter, he gradually secured his place in the England team by 2013. Making a strong comeback after a long injury layoff, Buttler made an immediate impact with a brilliant half-century in the second T20I of England’s tour of the West Indies 2024 in Bridgetown.
Chasing a target of 159 runs, England faced an early setback when Phil Salt was dismissed on the first ball of the innings. Buttler, however, steadied the ship, scoring 83 runs off 45 balls, with eight fours and six sixes, to guide England to a seven-wicket victory.
He was named Player of the Match for his thunderous batting efforts.
4. 83* vs USA, Bridgetown, 2024
Buttler played a terrific knock of 83 runs against the USA in England’s Super Eight match in the T20 World Cup 2024. Chasing a target of 116, his 83 off 38 balls, which included six fours and seven sixes, helped England win the match with 62 balls to spare.
Buttler was well supported by Phil Salt, who anchored the chase with a solid 25 off 21 balls, leading England to a comfortable 10-wicket win.
3. 83* vs India, Ahmedabad, 2021
Another Jos Buttler masterclass came during the England tour of India in 2021 when the right-hander whacked unbeaten 83 runs in the third T20I at Ahmedabad.
Buttler’s match-winning innings, which consisted of five boundaries and four sixes, helped England chase down the 157-run target with 10 balls to spare.
He was named Player of the Match in England’s eight-wicket win.
2. 84 vs Pakistan, Birmingham, 2024
Buttler played a match-winning innings, scoring a half-century against Pakistan in Birmingham in 2024.
After opting to bat first on a good pitch, England’s innings was anchored by Buttler, who scored 84 off 51 balls. The opener joined hands with Will Jacks to add 71 runs for the second wicket.
Buttler’s sensational innings included eight boundaries and three sixes. England won the game by 23 runs and Buttler was named Player of the Match.
1. 101* vs Sri Lanka, Sharjah, 2021
Buttler notched up his highest T20I total during England’s group stage match against Sri Lanka in the 2021 T20 World Cup at Sharjah. His unbeaten 101-run knock remains his only T20I century so far.
Batting first, England notched up 163 runs on the back of Buttler’s stunning century, which included six boundaries and six sixes.
England ultimately won the game by 26 runs and Buttler was named Player of the Match.
