Six Pakistan captains have registered a double century in test cricket.

Pakistan cricket has been blessed with some incredible batting talents in their history. Some of these batting superstars went on to lead the team in test cricket and also did well with the bat while leading the side.

Javed Burki was the first captain of Pakistan to score a test century in 1962. After him, several captains have achieved this milestone.

But only a few went on to convert their centuries into double and triple hundreds. In this article, we will talk about the top five individual scores by Pakistan captains in test cricket.

List of top five highest scores by Pakistan captains in test cricket:

5. Hanif Mohammad – 203* vs New Zealand, Lahore, 1965

Hanif Mohammad was one of the best batters in his country and he also led Pakistan in test cricket. He was the first captain to score a double century for Pakistan. He did it against New Zealand in April 1965 in Lahore.

It came in a drawn test. He came out to bat at No. 6 and scored an unbeaten 203 in the first innings. Pakistan declared at 385/7 in 167 overs. New Zealand declared at 482/6d in 209 overs. The game was drawn when Pakistan were 194/8 in their second innings.

4. Javed Miandad – 211 vs Australia, Karachi, 1988

Javed Miandad had a legendary career, and he won many matches for Pakistan as player and captain. One prime example of this was in September 1988 in Karachi, when Pakistan beat Australia by an innings and 188 runs.

Batting first, Pakistan declared at 469/9 in 169.5 overs. Captain Miandad made a terrific 211, with 29 fours and one six. Australia were bowled out for 165 and 116 runs in two innings and lost the game.

3. Saleem Malik – 237 vs Australia, Rawalpindi, 1994

Saleem Malik also had a decent international career as batter and captain. He was the first Pakistan captain to breach the 230-run mark in an innings in test cricket, which he recorded in Rawalpindi against Australia in October 1994.

It was a match-saving knock that came in the second innings when Pakistan were following on. Australia scored 521/9d and dismissed Pakistan for 260 runs in the first innings to take a 261-run lead.

Pakistan needed something special in their second innings to avoid a loss, and then the captain came up with a brilliant 237 off 328 with 34 glorious boundaries. Pakistan made 537 and set a target of 277 for the visitors. Australia were 14/1 when the game ended in a draw. Saleem Malik won the Man of the Match award.

2. Wasim Akram – 257* vs Zimbabwe, Sheikhupura, 1996

Legendary pacer Wasim Akram was known as the King of Swing, but he was more than just handy with the bat and holds the record for the second-highest score by a Pakistan captain in test cricket.

It came in 1996 in Sheikhupura against Zimbabwe. It was a drawn test where Zimbabwe scored 375 and 241/7 in their two innings. Pakistan batted once and scored 553, courtesy of an unbeaten 257 from captain Akram.

Akram’s 257 not out is still the highest score at No. 8 in test cricket. He slammed 12 sixes in his innings, which is the joint-most sixes in a test knock.

1. Younis Khan – 313 vs Sri Lanka, Lahore, 2009

Only four Pakistani batters have scored a triple century in test cricket, and Younis Khan is the only one to do so while captaining the side. He did it while leading the team in 2009 against Sri Lanka in Lahore.

This game saw the highest total for Pakistan in test cricket being piled up. Sri Lanka batted first and made 644/7 in 155.2 overs and declared. Pakistan then responded strongly with 765/6 in 248.5 overs.

Younis Khan registered the highest score by a Pakistan captain in test cricket. He made 313 off 568 balls, with 27 fours and four sixes. That game ended in a draw.
