Bangladesh have scored over 500 runs 12 times in test cricket.

The Bangladesh cricket team played their first-ever test match against India in 2000. Since then, the Tigers have played over 140 test matches till now.

The country has been blessed with a few high-quality cricketers who have showcased their skills and talent on the world stage in test cricket.

Despite producing a few world-class cricketers, Bangladesh have struggled to record victories in test cricket, especially outside the comforts of their home conditions.

Nonetheless, Bangladesh batsmen have posted a few big scores in test matches on good batting surfaces. They have recorded a dozen scores of over 500 runs.

In this article, let’s take a look at Bangladesh’s top five highest totals in test cricket.

Highest totals by Bangladesh in test cricket:

5. 556 vs West Indies, Mirpur, 2012

This one of the few instances where a team lost the match even after scoring over 550 runs. In the Mirpur test against West Indies in 2012, Bangladesh conceded 527/4d as Kieran Powell played a superb knock of 117 runs and Shivnarine Chanderpaul slammed 203*.

In reply, the hosts notched up 556 runs after Naeem Islam scored 108 runs and Nasir Hossain made 96. West Indies made 273 with Kieran Powell playing a crucial knock of 110 in the second innings.

The hosts got a target of 245 runs, chasing which, they got bowled out for 167 and lost the match by 77 runs.

4. 560/6d vs Zimbabwe, Mirpur, 2020

In the Mirpur test against Zimbabwe in 2020, Bangladesh knocked over the visitors for 265 in their first innings as Abu Jayed took four wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh buried Zimbabwe by posting 560/6d after Mushfiqur Rahim played a glorious knock of 203* off 318 balls.

Zimbabwe lost the test by an innings and 106 runs after they were all out for 189 in their second innings.

3. 565 vs Pakistan, Rawalpindi, 2024

During the Rawalpindi test against Pakistan in 2024, Bangladesh notched up 565 runs in the first innings, which is now their third-highest total in tests.

Talking about the match, Pakistan declared at 448/6, made with the help of Saud Shakeel (141) and Mohammad Rizwan’s (171) centuries in the first innings.

Bangladesh replied brilliantly by slamming 565 runs in their first innings. Mushfiqur Rahim played a game-changing knock of 191 runs.

The hosts were bundled for 146 in their second innings. Bangladesh won the match by 10 wickets after they were set a target of only 30 runs.

2. 595/8d vs New Zealand, Wellington, 2017

One of Bangladesh’s most famous batting performances came against New Zealand in the Wellington test in 2017, where they aggregated 595. However, they still ended up on the losing side!

This is Bangladesh’s second-highest total in tests. They made 595/8d after star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played a wonderful knock of 217 off 276 deliveries.

In reply, the Black Caps scored 539 runs on the back of opener Tom Latham’s 177. Bangladesh were bundled out for just 160 runs in their second innings as Trent Boult picked up three wickets.

While chasing 217, veteran batter Kane Williamson scored a match-winning 104* off 90 balls. New Zealand won the clash by seven wickets.

1. 638 vs Sri Lanka, Galle, 2013

Bangladesh’s highest score in test cricket is 638, which they made against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013. This is also their only 600+ total so far.

Speaking of the game, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (142) and Lahiru Thirimanne (155*) guided the hosts to 570/4d. In reply, Bangladesh piled up 638 runs after Mohammad Ashraful’s 190, Nasir Hossain’s 100, and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 200.

The match ended in a high-scoring draw after Sri Lanka made 335/4d in their second innings and Bangladesh made 70/1 while chasing 268.
