The first edition of the ICC Champions Trophy was played in 1998.
The ICC Champions Trophy was introduced by the ICC in 1998 to bring more excitement to ODI cricket between the four-year World Cup cycles.
Since then, eight editions of the tournament have been held in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2017. Australia and India have emerged as the most successful teams winning the trophy two times each.
The competition, where even a single defeat can lead to elimination, has produced some nail-biting finals. In this article, we will look at the top five highest team totals in Champions Trophy finals.

5. South Africa – 248/6 vs West Indies, 1998, Dhaka
South Africa clinched their first and only ICC trophy in 1998, when they defeated West Indies in the ICC Champions Trophy (then ICC Knockout Trophy) final in Dhaka.
Chasing 246, the Proteas were led by captain Hansie Cronje, who scored an unbeaten 61 off 77 balls. He received solid support from Mike Rindel, Jacques Kallis, and Dale Benkenstein, who scored 49, 37, and 27 respectively.
South Africa won the game by four wickets with three overs to spare. Kallis was named Player of the Match for his 37 runs and five wickets in the game.
4. New Zealand – 251/7 vs India, 2025, Dubai
New Zealand faced India in the final of 2025 edition of the tournament in Dubai. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Kiwis started in a good fashion as they scored 69 runs with loss of one wicket in the first powerplay. After that, the Kiwis lost their way as they could manage to add 103 more runs in the next 20 overs. However, they finished well in their innings, scoring 79 runs in the last 10 overs, which helped them post a total of 251 runs.
Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101), Michael Bracewell (53* off 40), Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29) and Glenn Phillips (34 off 52) were key contributors for their side.
3. India – 264/6 vs New Zealand, 2000, Nairobi
India registered their highest total in an ICC Champions Trophy (then ICC Knockout Trophy) final in the 2000 edition against New Zealand in Nairobi.
The Men in Blue got off to a solid start with a 141-run opening partnership between Sachin Tendulkar (69) and Sourav Ganguly (117). They however lost their way and lost wickets at regular interval to manage just 63 runs in the last 11 overs. They finished at 264/6 before failing to defend the target. Chris Cairns scored a sensational hundred to guide his side to a win by four wickets.
2. New Zealand 265/6 vs India, 2000, Nairobi
New Zealand hold the record for the highest-ever run chase in an ICC Champions Trophy final. They achieved it against India in the final of the 2000 edition in Nairobi.
Chasing 265, New Zealand slipped to 132/5 before Chris Cairns and Chris Harris joined forces to form a 122-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Cairns remained unbeaten, scoring 102 off 113 balls to help the Kiwis steer to a four-wicket win. He was named Player of the Match for his efforts.
1. Pakistan – 338/4 vs India, 2017, The Oval
Pakistan recorded the highest team total in ICC Champions Trophy final of 338 runs against India at the Oval, London in 2017.
Batting first, Pakistan got off to a fantastic start with a 128-run opening partnership. Fakhar Zaman led the batting lineup, scoring a brilliant 114 off 106 balls. Mohammad Hafeez provided the perfect finishing touch with a quickfire 57 off just 37 deliveries.
Pakistan ultimately won the match by 180 runs.
