Punjab Kings (PBKS) (previously Kings XI Punjab) are arguably one of the worst performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. They are one of the teams who made their debut in the inaugural edition in 2008, but haven’t won the title yet. Since the first season of the tournament, the franchise has reached the playoffs only on two occasions.

PBKS reached the semi-finals in the 2008 season, but could not make it to the final. In the 2014 season, they reached the final with a stunning show in the league stage. However, they lost the encounter to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and ended as runners-up.

After the 2014 season, PBKS have consistently failed to reach the playoffs. Although PBKS have struggled to reach playoffs in the IPL, they have showcased marvellous batting shows in some games. In this listicle, we will take a look at their top five highest totals in the IPL.

5. 231/4 vs CSK (IPL 2014)

During the 29th match of IPL 2014 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Punjab-based franchise registered another impeccable team total in the IPL. Former Australia stalwart George Bailey was the skipper of the side then.

With stunning batting shows by Glenn Maxwell (90), David Miller (47), and Bailey (40*), PBKS scored 231/4 in the match played at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium. Later, they halted CSK at 187/6 in the second innings to win the clash by 44 runs.

4. 232/2 vs RCB (IPL 2011)

Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) posted a mountainous total against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 63rd match of IPL 2011. Led by then skipper Adam Gilchrist, Kings scored 232 runs losing two wickets in the first innings.

Opener Gilchrist (106) smacked a stunning century to dismantle RCB bowlers at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Later, they bowled out RCB for just 121 runs, winning the clash by a vast margin of 111 runs.

3. 243/5 vs GT (IPL 2025)

In IPL 2025, the Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS registered another outstanding total in the fifth match of the tournament against Gujarat Titans (GT). Batting first, opener Priyansh Arya (47) and skipper Iyer (97*) led the way for the team’s gigantic total of 243/5 in the match.

Shashank Singh also added quickfire 44 runs towards the end. Later, GT too arrived with a stunning batting show, however, they managed to score 232/5 till the final delivery and lost the game by 11 runs in a thrilling encounter.

2. 245/6 vs SRH (IPL 2025)

PBKS piled up another gigantic team total in IPL 2025. During their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday, April 12, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Shreyas Iyer & Co. posted 245/6 in the first innings. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first in the 27th match of the season.

With a combined batting efforts by Priyansh Arya (36), Prabhsimran Singh (42), and Shreyas Iyer (82) in batting, PBKS scripted the record for their second-highest total ever in the IPL. Marcus Stoinis hammered quickfire 34 off 11 deliveries towards the end.

1. 262/2 vs KKR (IPL 2024)

PBKS’ highest team total in the IPL came in the 2024 edition against KKR. This was also a fabulous chase to witness. In the 42nd game of the season, Sam Curran-led PBKS chased down a 262-run target to script history for the highest successful run-chase in the tournament history. Batting first, KKR posted 261/6 on the scoreboard, thanks to amazing half-centuries by openers Phil Salt (75) and Sunil Narine (71).

However, they failed to defend their total as Jonny Bairstow powered the Kings to an impossible victory with his impeccable century. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh also slammed half-centuries as KKR bowlers remained helpless in the match. Notably, PBKS chased down the target in the 19th over.
