How can Bangladesh qualify for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after losing last game of CWC 2023 against Australia

Bangladesh finished their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign with 2 wins in 9 games.

Bangladesh got thrashed by Australia by 8 wickets in their final league game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Bangladesh have their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 future hanging in midway after losing their final game at MCA Stadium in Pune. Bangladesh have managed to win only two league games in the ongoing tournament and had a dismal performance. Bangladesh will be keeping a close eye on the India vs Netherlands encounter on Sunday.

As per the new ICC rules, Teams finishing in the top 8 in the World Cup 2023 points table will qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. Bangladesh are currently positioned 8th in the table with only 4 points and 2 wins. To confirm their finish in the same position, Bangladesh will bank on the Indian cricket team. India will be taking on the Netherlands in the final league game of the World Cup 2023 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

Bangladesh will be hoping for India’s victory against the Netherlands to confirm their 8th-place finish. Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have 8 points each but due to a better net run rate than Sri Lanka and Netherlands, Bangladesh are placed above them. If somehow the Netherlands manage to pull off a win against India in Bengaluru, they will go up in 8th place and put Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 9th and 10th respectively. 

Even if Bengaluru witnesses intense rain and the game between India and Netherlands gets called off, the Netherlands will get one point and go above Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This will help the Netherlands qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to be played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka are out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as they will finish below 8 irrespective of the result from the India vs Netherlands encounter at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. 

England after languishing at the bottom of the table for a long time have managed to promote themselves above 8th place and they are highly likely to make it to the Champions Trophy 2025 along with India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan. England are currently in a good position against Pakistan at Eden Gardens and have given Pakistan 338 runs to chase down. Pakistan lost early wickets in the chase.
