Rohit Sharma played as an opener for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians (MI) observed a horrible season in the Indian Premier League 2026. The five-time champions were among the worst performers and were the second team to be eliminated from the tournament. They finished at the ninth spot in the points table.
Rohit Sharma played as an opener for Mumbai in the tournament. He was picked as an impact player on most occasions. He made a spectacular start to the tournament with a 78-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening game.
The right-handed batsman suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede Stadium. He had to retire hurt and leave the field. Later, he also missed a few games and made a comeback after recovering from his injury.
Rohit Sharma failed to come up with an impressive batting show in IPL 2026

The former MI captain could only play nine games in IPL 2026. He piled up 283 runs at an average of 35.38 and a strike rate of 157.22 He also scored two half-centuries for the team, which came against KKR and LSG.
However, in the other seven games, he crossed the 25-run mark only once. Hence, he failed to impress with his performance.
If we compare his performance over the last two seasons, Sharma crossed the 400-run mark in the 2025 and 2024 editions. He dominated the opposition teams as an opener. However, he could not replicate his heroics this season.
His opening partner Ryan Rickelton scored 448 runs in 12 games with one century and two half-centuries. He finished as the leading run-scorer for the side. Tilak Varma was another batter who impressed with his form. However, most of the MI batsmen gave a dismal show and Rohit was one of them.
