How can India qualify for semi-finals of Women's T20 World Cup 2026?

India are placed in Group A in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 commenced on June 12 and features a battle among 12 teams for the title. While New Zealand Women aim to defend their title, India Women look forward to winning the tournament for the first time.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, are among the favourites to win the tournament following their victory in the Women’s ODI World Cup last year. They are placed in Group A alongside teams like Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the Netherlands.

In their opening game on June 14 in Birmingham, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. outplayed their arch-rivals Pakistan by 64 runs. In their second encounter against the Netherlands on June 17, they snatched another big victory by 95 runs.

With two consecutive victories, India Women sit at the top of the Group A points table with four points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +3.975, followed by Australia with an equal number of points.

Since both have won their first two matches and remain unbeaten in their pool so far, they are the frontrunners in the race for the semi-finals.

As per the format in the Women’s T20 World Cup, the top two teams from each group after the conclusion of the league stage will qualify for the semi-finals. In the league stage, each team will face the teams of their pool once, playing a total of five matches.

Women in Blue have already won two games and will play three more matches against South Africa on June 21, Bangladesh on June 25, and Australia on June 28. Two victories will confirm India’s spot in the semi-finals, while one win might just be enough.

Given their dominance in T20I compared to Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the Netherlands, India, Australia, and South Africa are in the race for the top two spots from Group A. South Africa have already lost a match against Australia, and if they lose to India, their hopes of reaching the semi-finals will be in jeopardy.

Hence, India Women’s upcoming clash against South Africa on June 21 will be a crucial one for both sides. A win would boost the chances of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side finishing in the top two of the Group A points table. Another victory against Bangladesh will confirm their place in the semis.
