South African pacer Lungi Ngidi has done a decent job for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the first half. The right-arm pacer rocked with a three-wicket haul in the opening clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
He later got one wicket each against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) and bowled at an impressive economy in both encounters. Delivering a consistent show in the following games, he is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker for the Capitals.
In seven games in IPL 2026, the Proteas pacer has taken seven wickets at an average of 23.40 and an economy of 8.70. Unfortunately, the right-arm pacer suffered an injury in the previous encounter against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Ngidi sustained a head injury while fielding in the second innings of DC vs PBKS match. He was injured while attempting a catch of Priyansh Arya during Axar Patel’s over.
After the incident, he was seen in immense pain, and then was rushed to hospital. Vipraj Nigam was utilised as a concussion substitute for Lungi in the second innings.
Moreover, after undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Delhi, the Proteas fast bowler has recovered from his injury and has rejoined the team. But he is currently under the care of the DC medical staff. The franchise has informed that his injury is not serious; however, they rested him in the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 27.
Lungi Ngidi to miss one more game in IPL 2026

The DC pacer is set to miss at least one more game in IPL 2026. He missed the clash against RCB on April 27 and won’t be able to play against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 1. According to ICC rules, any player diagnosed with a concussion needs to serve a seven-day rest period. Hence, Ngidi has been asked to follow the same rule in IPL 2026, as per a report by Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, Capitals added Dushmantha Chameera and Kyle Jamieson in the playing XI against RCB after Ngidi’s ouster. After being asked to bat first, the Axar Patel & Co. suffered a horrible batting collapse and were all out for just 75 runs. RCB chased down the target with nine wickets in hand.
