Ibrahim Zadran breaks Rahmanullah Gurbaz's record to become fastest Afghanistan batsman to score 1000 ODI runs

Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran has smashed 4 centuries in his ODI career so far.

Afghanistan got off to a flyer against Pakistan at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have thrashed Pakistan bowling-attack to begin their chase. Gurbaz has been in great form in this ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and smashed his second half-century in the World Cup 2023. Along with him, Zadran is also going strong. Zadran has converted his start into a decent innings and also broken a record.

Ibrahim Zadran has become the quickest Afghanistan batter to complete 1000 ODI runs. Zadran has broken the record of his opening partner, Gurbaz. He needed only 3 runs to complete 1000 runs and overtook Gurbaz by achieving the feat 3 innings quicker. Gurbaz had completed his 1000 ODI runs in 27 innings to become the quickest batter for Afghanistan, while Zadran was 3 innings quicker than Gurbaz.

Afghanistan have a formidable opening combination of Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. They both have scored runs in bulk for their national sides in recent months. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is the quickest batter to complete 1000 ODI runs. Fakhar Zaman took only 18 innings to reach this milestone. Imam-ul-Haq took 19, while Shubman Gill is the quickest Indian batter with 19 innings to complete 1000 ODI runs.

Ibrahim Zadran made his ODI debut in November 2019 against West Indies. He has so far smashed four centuries and five half-centuries in his ODI career. Zadran has had a great start against Pakistan and will be looking to play a crucial knock in Chennai. He added 130 runs in 21 overs along with Gurbaz (65). Gurbaz perished after scoring 65 runs in 53 balls with nine fours and one six. Shaheen Afridi dismissed Gurbaz, caught at the fine-leg boundary by Usama Mir.

Batting first, Pakistan posted 282 runs on the board. Captain Babar Azam (74) played a magnificent knock and helped Pakistan reach above par total at Chepauk. Abdullah Shafique (58), Iftikhar Ahmed (40), and Shadab Khan (40) also contributed to Pakistan total. Afghanistan have come closer to causing an upset against Pakistan, but so far they have failed to touch the finish line. Ibrahim Zadran will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.
