India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in Match 12 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
On Sunday, March 2, India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in the last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
After being asked to bat first, India got off to a poor start and slipped to 30/3 in the first seven overs. Shreyas Iyer then led the recovery, adding 98 runs for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel.
Iyer top-scored for India with 79 off 98 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Hardik Pandya then applied the finishing touch to power India to a challenging total of 249. Matt Henry was New Zealand’s standout bowler, recording third five-wicket haul of his ODI career.
In reply, New Zealand struggled against the Indian spinners and found it difficult to maintain a good run rate. They also lost wickets consistently, slipping to 151/5 in 36 overs. Kane Williamson top-scored for the Kiwis with 81 from 120 balls.
Varun Chakaravarthy starred for India, picking up 5/42 in his spell to restrict New Zealand for 205 runs and help India win the game by 44 runs. India will now face Australia in the first semi-final on March 4 in Dubai, while New Zealand will take on South Africa in the second semi-final on March 5.

Thanks to the comfortable win, India finished the group stage as the toppers of Group A standings with six points. New Zealand secured the second spot with four points. Bangladesh and Pakistan finished third and fourth with one point each.
From Group B, South Africa and Australia qualified for the semi-finals positioned first and second with five and four points respectively. Afghanistan finished third in their first ICC Champions Trophy appearance with two points. England had a disastrous tournament, returning home without a win.
ICC Champions Trophy: Most runs
England batsmen Ben Duckett and Joe Root finished the group stage as top two run-scorers with 227 and 225 runs respectively.
Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran finished the tournament with a remarkable tally of 216 runs. New Zealand’s Tom Latham and India’s Shreyas Iyer, who scored 79 in today’s game, complete the list of top five with 187 and 150 runs, respectively.

New Zealand speedster Matt Henry leads the wicket-takers’ chart with eight wickets. Afghanistan fast bowler Azmatullah Omarzai is slotted next with seven wickets.
Ben Dwarshuis has led Australia’s pace attack and is placed third with his tally of six scalps. New Zealand’s William O’Rourke and England’s Jofra Archer are slotted fourth and fifth with six wickets each.
