The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 got underway at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that all the spectators who will visit the stadiums to enjoy the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 tournament, will be provided with free mineral water.
This year is the first time that India will exclusively host the ODI World Cup. In 1987, 1996, and 2011, they co-hosted it with the neighboring countries. The Men in Blue also won the trophy in 2011 by beating Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The 13th edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup is underway in India. The tournament kicked-off on October 5, 2023, and is scheduled to conclude on November 19, 2023. Ten national teams are participating in this prestigious event: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
The tournament is being held across ten different venues in India, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and MCA International Stadium in Pune.
“Stay hydrated and enjoy the games!”- BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirms that BCCI will provide free water to fans in stadiums
Though the tournament is being played in October- November, the majority of matches will start in the afternoon and some encounters are even day matches with early starts. Often the fans who come into the stadium to watch the matches are not allowed to carry their own water bottles. They have to purchase the water and other drinks from vendors in the stadium, which comes at an exorbitant price.
To keep the fans hydrated and happy, the BCCI has announced that it will be providing mineral water and packaged drinks free of cost to spectators across the nation for the Cricket World Cup 2023.
Honorary Secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah, took to his X handle on Thursday and announced that BCCI will be providing free mineral drinking water to the audience who will visit the stadiums across India to watch the matches.
"Exciting times ahead as we anticipate the first ball of @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023 ! I am proud to announce that we're providing FREE mineral and packaged drinking water for spectators at stadiums across India. Stay hydrated and enjoy the games! Let's create unforgettable memories during CWC 2023! #EngvsNZ #CWC23,” he posted on X.
