India to take on New Zealand on the first knockout match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-finals and finals will have reserve days in case the game can’t be completed as scheduled. The semi-finals will commence on November 15 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while the second semi-finals game will be played between Australia and South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The tournament has now reached its business end.

There are very few chances of rain in Mumbai, as the weather remains pleasant on India’s west coast, but in Kolkata, there are very high chances of rain. There are more than 70% chances of rain in Kolkata on November 16th, when Australia and South Africa will both take on each other at Eden Gardens. In case of a major interruption, the game will be shifted to reserve day on Friday, November 17th, to decide on the second finalist.

What if reserve days also washed out?

In case rain spoils both the semi-finals as well as reserve days due to intense showers, then the top 2 ranked team in the points table will advance to the finals. Team India finished in pole position in the points table after winning all nine league games with 18 points. South Africa finished second in the table with 7 wins and 14 points. India and South Africa will both qualify for the finals if no action is possible in the semi-finals.

The finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. The finals also has a reserve day on November 20th in case rain spoils the day on Sunday. Team India have one of the worst memories of reserve day at the ICC Cricket World Cup. The previous semi-finals between India and New Zealand was played in two days as the game went to reserve day due to rain at Old Trafford.

Team India suffered an 18-run defeat in a closely contested game against new Zealand. Team India will be looking to wash away the memories of Old Trafford and bring some joy to Indian fans, hoping for an ICC title after the Champions Trophy 2013. India defeated New Zealand in the league-round game played at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. India won the game by 4 wickets after a magical 95-run innings in 104 balls from Virat Kohli.
