ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: List of players who are ruled out of the tournament due to injuries
Players who are set to miss the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to injuries.
Injuries have been the biggest concern for each team before heading into the big ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023. Teams will be missing out on several big names for the mega event in India. This becomes the biggest headache for team management and prompts them to change their strategies. Team India had multiple injury scars before the start of Asia Cup 2023, but slowly and steadily they have corrected everything that came their way.
Too much cricket action just a few days before the start of World Cup 2023 also raises a big concern over players' fitness. World Cup warm-up rounds will begin on September 29th, and a total of six World Cup participants were in action until September 27th. There are several big names on the list of injured players that everyone will miss during the World Cup tournaments. Let’s have a look at the big names that failed to make it into the tournament due to injury.
1. Rishabh Pant (India) :
Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant suffered a massive accident in December last year that ruled him out of the cricketing action for about a year. Rishabh Pant will be missing out on ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to this big injury. Pant was India’s first-choice wicket-keeper option, but now KL Rahul will be taking up the responsibility along with the number 5 middle-order batting position.
2. Michael Bracewell (New Zealand) :
New Zealand all-rounder was looked upon as a rising star and a player to watch out for in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. But his injury while playing in England’s domestic T20 tournament ruled him out of the entire tournament. Bracewell ruptured his right Achilles while playing for Worcestershire in English county cricket. Rachin Ravindra got the opportunity in place of him.
3. Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka) :
Sri Lankan spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga had a magnificent performance in Lankan Premier League but also got a massive set-back. Hasaranga sustained a hamstring injury that might require surgery as treatment. Hasaranga will be missing out on World Cup action for Sri Lanka. He was also ruled out of Asia Cup 2023, played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
4. Dushmantha Chameera (Sri Lanka) :
Along with spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, pace bowler Dushmanth Chameera is also ruled out of the entire World Cup 2023. Chameera was on the road to recovery, but he is still not fully ready for World Cup. Chameera got a pectoral muscle injury while playing in Lanka Premier League in August. Chameera was Sri Lanka’s leader in pace attacks.
5. Naseem Shah (Pakistan) :
Pakistan’s Naseem Shah was considered a talent to watch out for in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Naseem Shah injured his shoulder while playing against India in Asia Cup 2023 super 4 round. Hasan Ali has been given the green light to replace 20-years-old Naseem Shah, who became an integral part of the Pak pace attack along with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.
6. Anrich Nortje (South Africa) :
Anrich Nortje will once again miss the opportunity to represent South Africa on cricket’s biggest stage. Just like it happened in 2019 World Cup in England, Anrich Nortje has injured himself once again and been ruled out of the entire tournament starting on October 5. Nortje is ruled out due to a lower back injury. Lizard Williams has replaced him in the squad.
7. Sisanda Magala (South Africa) :
The 32-years-old Protean fast bowler was also injured, and he was replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo in South Africa’s 15-members squad for World Cup 2023. Sisanda Magala has a problem in his left knee and will require further assessment and treatment. Right-arm pace bowler Magala has played eight ODI games for South Africa.
8. Ebadot Hossain (Bangladesh) :
After missing Asia Cup 2023, it was certain that Ebadot Hossain would also be ruled out of World Cup 2023 squad. Ebadot Hossain has an ACL injury, and players require an ample amount of time to recover from that injury. Ebadot Hossain will be missing in action for Bangladesh side in the upcoming mega event in India.
9. Jofra Archer (England) :
Since Jofra Archer made his debut, he has not played a single tournament without an injury. Jofra Archer has suffered from elbow problems since the beginning of his international career. Archer got injured once again while playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. He will be with England squad as a travelling reserve for World Cup.
