New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets to register their 3rd win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

New Zealand have outclassed Bangladesh with a top-class resilient batting performance at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. New Zealand successfully chased down Bangladesh’s given target of 246 runs. Blackcaps were bolstered by the return of their full-time captain Kane Williamson (78) who came back in an international game after more than 7 months. Williamson’s determination put New Zealand at the top along with a counter-attacking approach from all-rounder Daryll Mitchell (89*). Mitchell and Williamson put up a 108 runs unbeaten stand before Williamson walked off the field retired hurt. Williamson was hit on the thumb by a throw.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 245 runs on a tricky Chepauk wicket. The experience of Shakib Al Hasan (40) and Mushfiqur Rahim (66) came into play when Bangladesh lost early wickets. Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry put the Kiwis on top with early wickets. Later on, Shakib and Mushfiqur added 96 runs for the fifth wicket helping them reach close to the par total. Mahmudullah (41) once again proved his worth as Bangladesh finisher to take his team close to 250. Despite a challenging total, Bangladesh were outclassed by the Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell's stand.
