Sri Lanka defeated Netherlands by five wickets in match No.19 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
In a thrilling encounter at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka secured their first victory by defeating Netherlands in Lucknow. Dutch team, who are coming off a win against South Africa, set a target of 263 runs for Sri Lanka. Sybrand Engelbrecht was the stand-out performer, scoring a brilliant 70, supported by Logan van Beek's 59. However, Sri Lankan bowlers, especially Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha, managed to pick up four wickets each, restricting Netherlands to 262.
Sri Lanka's chase was anchored by Pathum Nissanka, who contributed 54, and Charith Asalanka, who scored 44. Sadeera Samarawickrama played a match-winning innings, remaining unbeaten at 91. Aryan Dutt was the pick of the bowlers for Netherlands, taking three wickets, but Sri Lanka reached the target in 48.2 overs and ended with scores of 263/5. This victory was a much-needed boost for Sri Lanka in the tournament.
