In the match No. 22 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, played at Chennai, Afghanistan emerged victorious against Pakistan. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive total of 282/7 in their allotted 50-overs.
For Pakistan, opener Abdullah Shafique scored a well-crafted 58, while skipper Babar Azam top-scored and contributed with 74. Noor Ahmad was the pick of Afghan bowlers, taking three wickets for them. The match witnessed nail-biting moments as Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals.
Chasing 283 for victory, Afghanistan's opening batsman, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, set the tone with a blistering 65 off 53 balls. Ibrahim Zadran's composed 87 and Rahmat Shah's unbeaten 77, and Afghan skipper Shahidi's brilliant knock of 48 helped them successfully chase the target. Afghanistan reached the target in 49 overs, finishing at 286/2. This win marked Afghanistan's second victory in the tournament.
