Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener by six wickets.

In the third game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Bangladesh took on Afghanistan at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala on October 7th. Winning the toss Bangladesh opted to field first putting Afghanistan to bat. Afghan innings ended with 156 runs in 37.2 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was their top-scorer with 47 runs. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the star bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming three wickets each. Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam, also made significant contributions with the ball.

Bangladesh won the match by seven wickets remaining, securing a convincing victory in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener. Bangladesh innings saw Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das opening the innings for them with not giving a good start as required. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the responsibility to give his team the first win of the tournament. He scored 57 and made a crucial partnership with Najmul Hossain Shanto who also scored a fifty and ended with a score of 59 not out. Bangladesh reached the target in 35 overs.
