Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in match No. 31 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

In a thrilling encounter at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Pakistan emerged victorious in the 31st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, but faced a challenging Pakistani bowling attack.

Bangladeshi innings got off to a disastrous start, with Tanzid Hasan departing for a duck, courtesy of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Litton Das tried to anchor the innings with 45 runs, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Mahmudullah's fighting knock of 56 and Shakib Al Hasan's 43 were the highlights as Bangladesh managed to post 204 in 45.1 overs.

Pakistan's chase began with Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman leading the charge. They put up a 128-runs partnership before Mehidy Hasan Miraz took three crucial wickets. Fakhar Zaman's explosive 81 paved the way for Pakistan's comfortable victory as they finished of at 205/3 in 32.3 overs.

Pakistan with their victory over Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata are now back in the race for the top four. Pakistan have also ended their streak of four consecutive losses in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They needed a win at any cost to remain alive but their chances depended upon the other results as well. Pakistan now have six points with three wins in seven games and are placed 5th in the table. Pakistan’s net run rate is -0.024. Bangladesh have suffered their 6th consecutive loss in the tournament. After winning against Afghanistan, Bangladesh have lost all of their league games so far. They are placed at ninth position with just two points in seven games and their net run rate stands at -1.446. Team India are at the top of the table with 12 points and six wins out of six league games they have played. Defending champions England are placed at the bottom of the table with only two points in six games.

Mohammed Rizwan of Pakistan has been scoring runs throughout the tournament for his team. In the game against Bangladesh he was unbeaten for his team at 26. He has already scored one hundred and a fifty for his team.

South African batter Quinton De Kock is still the number one in the tally with 431 runs in six innings. De Kock has scored three centuries in the tournament so far and he is looking in great form in the ongoing mega event. He has smashed 15 sixes in his six innings so far. Australian opener David Warner is also in great form with two consecutive centuries and 413 runs in six innings, Warner stands second in the tally. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra has been a find of the tournament and he has impressed everyone with his great composure. Rachin Ravindra stands third in the tally with 406 runs in six innings. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is 4th in this list with 398 runs in six innings. Mohammed Rizwan is 5th with 359 runs.

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi had a record-breaking day at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Shaheen Afridi became the fastest pacer to pick up 100 ODI wickets. He touched this milestone in his career in just 51 ODIs. Shaheen bowled a magnificent spell of 3/23 in his 9 overs. With this, he has also jumped to second place in the leading wicket-takers tally with 16 wickets in seven matches. Australian leg-spinner had a tough first few games in the tournament but he has made a great comeback and is currently leading the chart with 16 wickets in six matches. Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is 3rd in the tally with 14 wickets in six matches. Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been a great power-play bowler for New Zealand. Santner is 4th in the tally with 14 wickets in six matches in the World Cup 2023. South African all-rounder Marco Jansen is 5th with 13 wickets.
