Australia defeated England by 33 runs to register their 5th win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Australia have sent England back to their packing business as the defending champions are now officially knocked out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Adam Zampa’s spell changed the game in Australia’s favour and helped his team take a stride forward in the semi-final round. Zampa also contributed with the bat to add 29 runs late in the order and took Australia to 286 runs.

Australia are left to play Afghanistan and Bangladesh now in the league stage. This loss has also made England’s qualification in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tough. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Batting first, Australia posted 286 runs on the table after suffering a poor start. Marnus Labuschagne (71) and Steve Smith (44) made a quick recovery after losing the openers early inside the first 6 overs. Later on, England also came back with two quick wickets but all-rounder Cameron Green (47) and Marcus Stoinis (35) took them to 200 plus.

Adam Zampa batting at number 10 played a cameo of 29 runs in 19 balls to finally give Australia a challenging total to defend. England also lost two wickets early but Dawid Malan (50) and Ben Stokes (64) had a decent stand to bring England back, Adam Zampa’s tight spell was enough to give Australia a much-needed 33-run victory in the game.
