India decimated South Africa by a huge margin of 243 runs in the match 37 of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Team India have thrashed South Africa by 243 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India’s bowling lineup has been on a dominating spree in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and dismissed South Africa for just 83 runs. South Africa were given a target of 327 runs at Eden Gardens but failed miserably against Indian bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja’s 5-wicket haul and Virat Kohli’s century was enough to dent South Africa’s confidence walking into the semi-finals. Virat Kohli celebrated his birthday in style and smashed his 49th ODI ton to equal Sachin’s world record. 

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started aggressively and added the first 50 runs in just 4.3 overs. Soon after, Rohit and Shubman perished early and Virat Kohli (101) and Shreyas Iyer (77) added 134 runs for the third wicket to help India above 300 runs in 50 overs. Chasing the total, South Africa had a poor start and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 5 wickets in his spell of 9 overs and conceded only 33 runs. Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match for his century.

Team India registered their 8th consecutive win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and remain at top of the table with 16 points in 8 games. India have been on a dominant run in the tournament with extraordinary performance in the tournament. They have decimated South Africa by a huge margin of 243 runs. India have also fixed themselves at the top of the table. South Africa faced their second defeat of the tournament and with a huge loss, their net run rate has suffered a huge setback. South Africa’s net run rate now stands at +1.376 in 8 league games. 

India and South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals with two more spots to grab. Currently, Australia are placed 3rd, while New Zealand are at 4th spot in the table. Followed by Pakistan and Afghanistan, who are still in the race for the semi-finals.

Indian batter Virat Kohli smashed his 49th ODI ton and with 101 runs, he has now become the second leading run-scorer of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Kohli has now amassed 543 runs in 8 innings. South African wicket-keeper Quinton De Kock is the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 550 runs in 8 innings. De Kock managed only 5 runs against India. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra is 3rd on the list with 523 runs in 8 innings. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 40 against South Africa and is now 4th with 442 runs. Australian opener David Warner is 5th with 428 runs in 7 innings.

Shami has jumped to 4th spot in the leading wicket-takers list with 16 wickets in just 5 games. Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa is first on this list with 19 wickets in 7 games. Sri Lanka pace bowler Dilshan Madushanka is second in the table with 18 wickets in 7 games. South African all-rounder Marco Jansen is 3rd in the list with 17 wickets in 8 games.
