South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 102 runs in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener.

South Africa have outclassed the Sri Lankans at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. South Africa have decimated the Sri Lankans by a huge margin of 102 runs in their opening ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash. It was a complete demolition from the Proteas as they put the highest ever total in the World Cup by any team in the game.

South Africa with the help of three centuries from Quinton De Kock (100), Rassie van der Dussen (108), and Aiden Markram (106) posted 428 runs on the board, overtaking the previous best of 417 runs by Australia. Sri Lanka were restricted to 326 runs as they failed under the pressure of a huge total.

Three of the South African batters struck centuries in the innings and Aiden Markram went on to score the fastest World Cup century. Markram took 49 balls to complete his century, one ball less than the previous best of Kevin O’Brien. South African batters had a terrific day as they smashed 14 sixes against Sri Lankan bowlers.

Heinrich Klassen (32 in 20 balls) and David Miller (39 in 21 balls) also contributed immensely to the 428 total. Chasing a big total, Kusal Mendis did show some intent in his innings, but he could not go further than 76 runs in 42 balls. Charith Asalanka (79) and Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka (68) also played magnificent knocks to put Sri Lankan above 300.

With a huge win over Sri Lanka, South Africa go into 2nd position in the table as 8 teams close in their opening game in the World Cup 2023. South Africa got a massive win over South Africa and kept their Net Run Rate (NRR) at +2.040 to their advantage later in the tournament in case of a need.

Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan earlier today and opened their campaign on a winning note. New Zealand and Pakistan have also got two points in the table as they defeated England and Netherlands respectively in their opening fixtures. India and Australia are yet to play their opening game in the tournament.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has seen 5 centuries in the tournament so far. Three South African batters scored a hundred against Sri Lanka in the same game and they all have now entered the top 5 list of leading run-scorers. New Zealand opener Devon Conway is number one with 152 runs knock against England.

Conway's partner in crime against England, Rachin Ravindra is second in the table with 123 runs. South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen is now 3rd in the table with his 108 runs. Aiden Markram scored 106 runs in 53 balls and he is 4th in the table. Wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock is 5th in this list with 100 runs.

Netherlands all-rounder Bas De Leede is still the leading wicket-taker after match 4 of the tournament between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Bas De Leede picked up 4 wickets against Pakistan and became the most valuable player in the World Cup 2023 as well.

Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled a magnificent spell against Afghanistan and picked up 3 wickets. Mehidy is currently at the second spot with a better economy than other bowlers like Shakib Al Hasan, Haris Rauf and Matt Henry, who also have 3 wickets each to their name.
