ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Points Table, Most Runs, Most Wickets after Match 42, SA vs AFG

Afghanistan have been knocked out of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

South Africa defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets in their final league game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Now, South Africa will finish their league stage with 7 wins in 9 games. Rassie van der Dussen once again proved South Africa’s crisis manager as South Africa struggled a bit chasing 245 against Afghanistan. At the end, Rassie van der Duseen (76) and Andile Phehlukwayo (39) stitched a match winning stand of 65 runs.

Batting first, Afghanistan were restricted to a decent total of 244 runs in Ahmedabad. Afghanistan with small partnerships and an unbeaten 97 from Azmatullah Omarzai, went closer to a challenging total. Azmatullah scored 97 runs in 107 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Gerald Coetzee was the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in the innings and finished with figures of 4/44 in 10 overs. The wicket made it clear that chasing would not be an easy task for the Proteas against Afghanistan spinners.

Afghanistan kept on picking wickets in regular intervals and created a lot of pressure on South Africa. But a match-winning knock of 76 runs from Rassie van der Dussen and contributions from others made sure South Africa end their group stage with a win over Afghanistan.
