ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Points Table, Most Runs, Most Wickets after Match 44, ENG vs PAK

Pakistan have been knocked out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-finals race.

Pakistan will say goodbye to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with a crushing defeat against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. England have thrashed Pakistan by 93 runs in their final league round game. With this win, England have also secured their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and avoided a big embarrassment. England will end at the 7th spot in the points table with 6 points.

England will finish their campaign with two consecutive wins after losing 6 out of their first 7 league games. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan and their top-order got off to a great start in the game. Jonny Bairstow (59) and Dawid Malan (31) had a wonderful opening stand of 82 runs in 13 overs. As the game went on, the wicket turned a bit slower on the bounce. 

England managed to give Pakistan a huge target in the game. All-rounder Ben Stokes (84) and Joe Root (60) made useful contributions in taking England to a total of 337 runs. Pakistan needed 338 runs to sign off their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign on a winning note. They got off to a horrendous start and lost Abdullah Shafique (0) and Fakhar Zaman (1) in just three overs. Pakistan’s middle order made some recovery in the chase and took the team to a respectable score. Agha Salman (51) and Mohammad Rizwan (36) played a few great shots in their stay at the wicket. England bowled Pakistan out on 244 runs. David Willey picked up 3 wickets in his final game for England.

England have secured a place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a much-needed win over Pakistan in their final league game against Pakistan. England will be finishing 7th in the points table with 3 wins and 6 points in the tally. England have won against Bangladesh, Netherlands and Pakistan in the tournament.

Pakistan needed a big win over England to make a grand entry into the semi-final round but they failed miserably. Pakistan will be finishing 5th in the table with 8 points and 4 wins in their 9 league matches. India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand have qualified for the semi-final with India taking on New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium on 15th November and Australia taking on South Africa on 16th November.

South African wicket-keeper Quinton De Kock is currently leading the chart with 591 runs in 9 innings with 4 centuries in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Quinton De Kock played magnificent knocks to comfortably take his team into the next round. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra is second in the tally with 565 runs in 9 innings.

Ravindra has been a find for the Kiwis in the big tournament as he smashed 3 centuries to help his team in the mega event. Indian batter Virat Kohli is 3rd with 543 runs in 9 innings. All these batters will have a close chance of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of most runs in a single edition of World Cup (673 runs). Australian opener David Warner is 4th in this list with 499 runs in 9 innings. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is 5th with 442 runs.

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has once again taken the lead in the leading wicket-takers list. Zampa bowled a brilliant spell against Bangladesh and picked up 2 wickets conceding 32 runs in 10 overs. Adam Zampa now has 22 wickets in 9 games in the World Cup 2023. Sri Lankan pace bowler Dilshan Madushanka is second in the list with 21 wickets in 9 games.

Madushanka also had a brilliant campaign in the tournament. South African pace bowler Gerald Coetzee has moved to 3rd place with 18 wickets in 7 games. Coetzee picked a 4-wicket haul against Afghanistan at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shaheen Afridi is 4th on the list with 18 wickets. South African all-rounder Marco Jansen is 5th with 17 wickets in 8 games.
