ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Points Table, Most Runs, Most Wickets after Match 5, IND vs AUS
India defeated Australia by 6 wickets in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener.
In a highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash, India took on Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Winning the toss Australia choose to bat first, Australia struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. David Warner contributed 41 runs, but consistent wickets hindered their progress.
Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne attempted a comeback but couldn't carry the team to a fighting total. India's bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav all three contributed well with the ball. Ravi Ashwin, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Siraj also gave their contribution.In the end, Australia were bowled out for 199.
India's innings got off to a shaky start as they lost their top-order batsmen, including Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer, early in the game. However, Virat Kohli an KL Rahul took the charge and played magnificent innings, and took India out of the difficult situation and brought them the first win of the tournament. India chased down the target of 200 in 41.2 overs.

With a win over arch-rivals Australia, India the hosts of this tournament have opened their account and have two points under their name. New Zealand are still on top with a high NRR. South Africa find themselves at the 2nd position in the table as all teams close in their opening game in the World Cup 2023. Pakistan are at the third position and Bangladesh find themselves fourth. India with a win over Australia go on to fifth position with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.883 .
The other five teams are yet to open their account, which consists England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Netherlands. All these teams would want to pen their account in the second week of the tournament.
