ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Rating performance of all 10 teams
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 had ten teams participating in the tournament.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has come to an end after 48 games between the top ten teams in the world. It started on October 5, and over a period of almost one and a half months, the world witnessed some incredible performances. Some massive records got broken in this tournament, which was hard to believe prior to this.
In this article, we will talk about the performances of the top ten teams that took part in the World Cup 2023. Every team did their best, but it paid off for a few. India, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand qualified for the knockouts, while six teams were eliminated from the group stage. Australia have won their sixth title and have beaten India for the second time in CWC finals.
Here is the performance of all ten teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
10. Netherlands (6/10) :
Netherlands were the associate nation in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Not a lot was expected from them, but, surprisingly, they had some good moments in this tournament. They also registered two wins in the tournament. Especially, their win against South Africa was a historic one in Dharamsala, and they also beat Bangladesh at Eden Gardens. In the end, they would be very proud of themselves for putting in such performances. Sybrand Engelbrecht was the highest scorer for them with 300 runs, while Bas de Leede (16) took most wickets.
9. Sri Lanka (4/10) :
Sri Lanka qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 after winning the qualifiers in Zimbabwe. But their performances in the tournament were not up to par. When we look at Sri Lankan cricket history, some really big moves come to mind. 1996 World Cup win or runners-up in 2007 and 2011. But the biggest disappointment was their performance. Though they beat England and Netherlands, they didn’t have many memorable performances. They couldn’t even qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. For Sri Lanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama (373 runs) and Dilshan Madushanka (21 wickets) were the top-performers.
8. Bangladesh (4/10) :
Bangladesh started the tournament with a win, but then they suffered six consecutive defeats before winning their only second game against Sri Lanka. That win helped them somehow qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because they were on the verge of losing a spot. Injuries, bad form, inconsistency, and the player’s ego, there were a number of things that let down Bangladeshi fans. Overall, they had a poor tournament; the only positive thing that they had was a spot in the Champions Trophy. Mahmudullah (328 runs) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (10 wickets) were the top performers.
7. England (3/10) :
Everyone thought that England would surely be in the top-four of the tournaments. But the performance was a total disaster. The lower-ranked team performed better than the defending champions in the tournament. They lost 7 out of the first 8 matches, and that was too bad. England somehow won the last two games to finish with six points and qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, or else it was looking horrible for them. Dawid Malan (404 runs) and Adil Rashid (15 wickets) were top performers for them.
6. Afghanistan (7.5/10) :
The team that has certainly impressed everyone was Afghanistan. If we are not mistaken, they were the second-best Asian team after India in the tournament. Despite losing their first two games, Afghanistan collected themselves to put up a historic win against England in Delhi. That win just gave them the confidence to win against big teams. After that, they won against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Netherlands. At one point, they were fighting for a place in the semis. Though it didn’t end in their favour, they certainly showed that they are not a weaker team now. This was the first time that they won four games in a single World Cup event. Ibrahim Zadran (376 runs) and Rashid Khan (11 wickets) were the top performers.
5. Pakistan (6/10) :
Pakistan were in the top four teams of a number of former cricketers. But the performance was below par. After winning the first two games, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat against India that certainly shattered their plans, resulting in three more consecutive defeats. They even couldn’t beat Afghanistan, which put them out of the semi-finals. Pakistan ended with five defeats (most for them in a single World Cup edition). Skipper Babar Azam also quit the captaincy after this horrible tournament. Mohammad Rizwan (395 runs) and Shaheen Afridi (18 wickets) were the top performers for Pakistan.
4. New Zealand (7.5/10) :
New Zealand started the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with four consecutive wins, and it looked like they were in the mood to win their first World Cup. But then, there was a time that they were fighting for a place in the semis. After facing four defeats, it all came down to their last group match against Sri Lanka. But they had a brilliant game against Sri Lanka, which helped them qualify for the semis. However, New Zealand had a decent game in the semis, but they couldn’t go past the strong Indian team and lost by 70 runs. Rachin Ravindra (578 runs) and Mitchell Santner (16 wickets) were the best performers. New Zealand should be disappointed that they lost yet another ICC knockout match..
3. South Africa (8/10) :
South Africa were the team to beat at one stage in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They dominated the group stage apart from the defeats against the Netherlands, a shocker, and India. They finished second on the table with seven wins. They were the only ones that were looking unstoppable because of the way they were performing. They posted the highest World Cup total and scored over 350-plus totals consistently. But South Africa couldn’t perform well in the semis against Australia. Their batting failed, but the bowlers did some fighting, but in the end they lost and choked once again. Quinton de Kock (594 runs) and Gerald Coetzee (20 wickets) were the best performers.
2. India (9/10) :
India showed a great form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 since the start and have won all ten games in the group matches. They finished the tournament at the top and then also beat New Zealand in the semi-finals to become the first team in the tournament to qualify for the finals. Though the luck didn’t end in their favour in the final game, and despite a brilliant tournament, they ended up losing. Overall, India were pretty impressive in the tournament. Virat Kohli (765 runs) and Mohammed Shami were the top-performers for the team.
1. Australia (9.5/10) :
Australia started the tournament with two consecutive defeats, and a number of people doubted them, but when it comes to ICC tournaments, Australia know how to bounce back, and that’s what they did. Men in yellow won their next seven group matches to finish third on the points table. They also won a low-scoring semi-final against South Africa. Australia were against India in the finals and once again ended with another ICC trophy and won their sixth World Cup title beating India. David Warner (535 runs) and Adam Zampa (23 wickets) were the top-performers for Australia in this winning tournament.
