The recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has placed its name in history by shattering records in both in-stadium attendance and broadcast viewership. The tournament, which saw Australia secure their sixth World Cup title by triumphing over India in a thrilling final, captured the hearts of millions worldwide.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and broadcasting giant Disney Star have jointly announced that the Men's ODI World Cup 2023 set new benchmarks for cricketing events. A staggering total of 1,250,307 spectators filled the stadiums across India, surpassing the previous attendance record of 1,016,420 set during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The 2019 World Cup in England, had 752,000 spectators.

Disney Star, the official broadcast partner, revealed that the linear television viewership in India exceeded half a billion, with a colossal 518 million tuning in over the six-week tournament period. The total consumption on TV reached a staggering 422 billion minutes, making this World Cup the largest in terms of viewership, as reported by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data in India.

The pinnacle of this cricketing event was the World Cup finals clash between India and Australia, which witnessed a staggering 300 million people. The match achieved a peak of 130 million, solidifying its status as the most-watched cricket match on television, courtesy of Disney Star's comprehensive coverage.

Digital platforms also played a significant role in this record-breaking spectacle, with Disney+ Hotstar hitting a high of 59 million viewers during the finals. This achievement cements the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as a digital sensation, breaking barriers for live sports events.
