South Africa have tightened their grip on their last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against England in Karachi.

The Proteas have also qualified for the semi-finals after bowling out England for just 179 runs in the first innings.

After being asked to bowl first, South Africa picked wickets at regular intervals, with Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder starring with three wickets each. For England, Joe Root top-scored with 37 runs, while Jos Buttler who is captaining England for the last time in ODIs, contributed with only 21 runs.

South Africa, however, would be concerned about Aiden Markram’s hamstring injury, which has ruled him out for the rest of the match.

Captaining the side in Temba Bavuma’s absence, Aiden Markram suffered a hamstring injury while fielding during the first innings of the game.

Heinrich Klaasen has now taken over the captaincy in Markram’s absence. The extent of Markram’s injury is not yet fully known. While Markram did not field after the injury, he will bat in the second innings if required.

South Africa will have to wait until tomorrow to find out their semi-final opponents, which will be either India or New Zealand. The team management will hope that Markram recovers before the crucial clash scheduled for March 4 or 5 (depending on the outcome of the India vs New Zealand match on Sunday).
