Brydon Carse claimed one wicket against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash.
On Monday, February 24, England confirmed that all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a toe injury.
Carse’s exclusion has added to England’s problems after suffering defeat in their opening game of the tournament against Australia by five wickets. Despite posting 351 runs in the first innings in Lahore, the English bowling lineup was torn apart by Josh Inglis, who scored a match-winning 120 off 86 balls.
Carse was part of England’s playing XI in the game, but failed to make an impact, conceding 69 runs in just seven overs while picking up the wicket of Alex Carey.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has now announced his replacement for the tournament.

The ECB confirmed in a release that Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the tournament with a toe injury. The release also confirmed that leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed will replace him in the squad.
The ECB statement read, “Durham and England bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out for the remainder of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy due to a left toe injury.“
“Carse sustained the injury during England’s opening Group B match against Australia on Saturday in Lahore. Leicestershire leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been named as his replacement and will join the squad in Pakistan later this week.“
Rehan Ahmed has taken 10 wickets in six ODIs for England so far in his career. His last appearance in the 50-over format came in Bridgetown against West Indies in 2023.
England’s decision to replace a fast bowler with a leg spinner is a tactical one and has come primarily due to the assistance the pitches have offered to spinners during the afternoon in Pakistan.
England updated squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Harry Brook, Rehan Ahmed, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Mark Wood.
