Virat Kohli has scored 217 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 so far.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will conclude on Sunday, March 9, with the final between India and New Zealand at Dubai’s Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS).
While India defeated New Zealand in their last group stage match on March 2, the Kiwis have had the upper hand in ICC tournament finals against India. They have beaten India twice in ICC tournament finals, which includes the ICC Champions Trophy 2000 (then ICC Knockout Trophy) and ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-21 final in 2021.
Ahead of the much-awaited final, India have now faced a major injury scare during the practice session on the eve of the final.
Virat Kohli suffers injury scare ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final – Reports
According to recent reports from Geo News, senior Indian batter and India’s most successful batter of the ongoing tournament, Virat Kohli sustained an injury during a practice session. While facing a pacer in the nets, Kohli was struck near his knee after which he stopped training. The Indian physio team quickly attended to him and applied spray to the affected area.
Thankfully, despite the pain, Kohli stayed on the ground and watched the rest of the practice session. The Indian coaching staff later clarified that the injury isn’t serious and that Kohli will be fit to play the final.
Kohli has become even more crucial for India in the Dubai conditions. The veteran batsman has rotated the strike with ease, allowing other players to bat more freely. He is also India’s top run-scorer in the tournament with 217 runs with one century and one half-century.
Earlier, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that their most successful bowler of the tournament Matt Henry remains doubtful for the final after the shoulder injury he sustained in the semi-final clash against South Africa.
In case of a fully fit squad, both the teams are expected to stick to the same lineup given the slow and spin friendly nature of Dubai pitch.
