Glenn Phillips scored a half-century in the Pak vs NZ clash of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

On Wednesday, February 19, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 kicked off with defending champions Pakistan facing New Zealand in a Group A clash in Karachi.

Batting first, New Zealand were powered by centuries from Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118). The duo stitched a 118-run partnership for the fourth wicket, setting the stage for a mammoth total.

The finishing touches came from Glenn Phillips, who smashed 61 off 39 balls, including three fours and four sixes, to propel the Kiwis to 320/5 in 50 overs.

Pakistan’s run chase got off to a shaky start as opener Saud Shakeel fell for just six runs. Both Saud and Babar played plenty of dot balls in the first powerplay, which resulted in Pakistan managing only 22 runs in the first 10 overs.

An incredible display of athleticism unfolded on the last ball of the powerplay. Facing William O’Rourke, Mohammad Rizwan attempted to find the boundary with a square cut off a back-of-the-length delivery.

The ball initially seemed to be going for the boundary, however, Glenn Phillips, fielding at point, dived to his left and plucked the ball while still being in the air to send the Pakistan captain back to the pavilion.
