South Africa have taken complete control of their last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against England in Karachi.
After being asked to bowl first, Marco Jansen led the South African attack, reducing England to 37/3 inside first seven overs. The Three Lions then fought back with a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket between Harry Brook and Joe Root before Keshav Maharaj dismissed Brook.
The biggest wicket for South Africa came in the 18th over when Mulder bowled Root. Bowling consistently on a tight line and length, the South African pacer delivered a good-length ball that nipped in, finding the gap between Root’s bat and pad to shatter the stumps.

England finished their innings at 179/10 off 38.2 overs with Joe Root (37) and Jofra Archer (25) top scoring for the side in the game. For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder starred with three wickets each.
After bowling out England for 179 in the first innings, South Africa have also qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament. They’ll have to wait till tomorrow evening to see whom they’ll face in the semi-finals.
Notably, this is Jos Buttler’s last match as England’s ODI captain. South Africa’s regular captain Temba Bavuma is also missing today’s match due to illness. Tristan Stubbs has replaced him in the playing XI.
