Lockie Ferguson made his ODI debut in 2016.

New Zealand have suffered another massive setback ahead of their first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as their speedster Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the tournament due to a foot injury. His exclusion comes just days after Ben Sears was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Drawn in group A, New Zealand are set to face Pakistan in the tournament’s opening game on February 19, Wednesday, at the National Stadium, Karachi.

The Kiwis are coming to the tournament in excellent form, having recently defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final of the Pakistan ODI Tri-series to win the trophy.

Kyle Jamieson to replace injured Lockie Ferguson in New Zealand’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

On Tuesday, 18 February, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed in a statement that Ferguson has been ruled out of the tournament after experiencing pain in his right foot following a spell in their warm-up match against Afghanistan.

NZC statement read, “BLACKCAPS fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a foot injury.

Ferguson felt some pain in his right foot after bowling a spell in the informal warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi on Sunday and an initial medical assessment indicated he would not be fit enough to take part in the entire tournament.

The statement further confirmed that speedster Kyle Jamieson will replace Ferguson in the Kiwi squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Canterbury Kings fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will replace Ferguson in the squad and will depart for Pakistan this evening.

Kyle Jamieson has played 45 international matches for New Zealand across formats, taking 104 wickets. His record in test cricket has been particularly impressive, with 80 wickets in 19 games at an average of just 19.

He returned to domestic cricket for the Canterbury Kings in the Dream11 Super Smash in December after being sidelined for 10 months due to a back injury.
